The pulsing heart of innovation
Founded in 1989, Pulsar Engineering is based in Castel Maggiore (BO) in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region, the “packaging valley” of Europe. Here, thanks to a long technical and mechanical tradition developed over centuries, companies have emerged that are now world leaders in packaging and product handling.
Since its founding, Pulsar Engineering has specialized in the design and production of conveying and handling solutions for the tissue, packaging and automation sectors including special machines, equipment and software to support customers in improving product quality and increasing line efficiency.
In 2013 Pulsar formed Pulsar America Inc. in Green Bay, Wisconsin-a new base of operations to better collaborate with U.S. customers.
Characterized by solid roots on the Italian territory and with an approach focused on excellence and tailoring Made in Italy, Pulsar Engineering’s outlook extends internationally: thanks to a structured sales network, we are present in more than 10 countries worldwide.
Always driven towards the research of innovative solutions, Pulsar Engineering has filed 89 patents all over the world and several other innovative solutions are currently in the patenting process. The basis of our development is research and continuous improvement of the automation process.

With more than 30 years of experience in the conveyor system industry, Pulsar began manufacturing its own components.
The Antares project begins to take its first steps.
A second production area, a shed of 11,000 sq. m., is acquired.

Project QUATIS, the quality inspection system for the tissue industry, is started.

First export to Africa: Lebanese group, a leader in Nigeria in the production of paper for hygienic use chooses Pulsar as partner to build the most advanced plant on the African continent.
Pulsar America is born in Appleton (WI).

A major U.S. multinational chooses Pulsar’s design to build the plant with the largest production capacity ever in North America, with an output of 50,000 tons per year and two packaging branches.

Expertise and Innovation in Tissue
For the Tissue industry, Pulsar Engineering manufactures product conveying and handling lines and systems, as well as special packaging machinery, both for rolls and interfolded products. Our integrated, customer-oriented approach and focus on the paper industry have led us over the years to win the trust of leading tissue manufacturers worldwide, who have chosen us as their partner: over the years Pulsar Engineering has built more than 25 complete turnkey plants and nearly 500 conveyor systems for rolls and packaged products in more than 35 countries.
The evolution of the group in recent years is the result of a precise development strategy that sees the Tissue sector as the one of reference and focus: this approach has led to orienting activities toward a proposal increasingly composed of innovative products and services designed to recover the efficiency of processing lines in the application sector and no longer just conventional products such as lines, plants and automatic machines.
From 1989 to the present, we have continued to focus on R&D, as evidenced by the many patents we have obtained, to create ideal combinations of hardware and software capable of managing and optimizing entire lines by integrating machines with conveyor systems.
From engineering services to identify the configuration layout of a new line or to optimize existing lines, even before the actual implementation, to patented software systems for line management, from the implementation of machines and assemblies to optimize product handling, to systems for quality inspection based on computer vision to innovative systems for primary and secondary packaging that are highly flexible and based on robotic systems, Pulsar Engineering is able to provide a 360° service to its customers, acting as a partner in all stages of the process.
All of Pulsar Engineering’s recent innovations are in line with the ever-increasing digitalization of production activities, with the aim of making production systems increasingly efficient and reducing waste of material, time and energy.
Specialist in Handling Systems for Packaging
For the packaging industry Pulsar has manufactured complete plants to handle various types of products in the food & beverage sector, in the manufacture of tobacco, in the pharmaceutical industry, with dozens of production processes in packaging and packing.
Pulsar Engineering has designed and installed: conveyor systems for packets of cigarettes, with transfer and orientation groups for 500/600 packets per minute; conveyor systems for blisters (600 pieces/minute) with units for the control and the automatic eject of the products; conveyor systems for small bottles in clean rooms; conveyor systems for cases and flow pack lines with orientation, preparation and metering from the packaging machine to the robot.
Great attention is paid to line management and control systems: customized software for data linkage between PLCs and PCs; integration of multiple process or packaging machines with mechanical or electronic systems; supervision and processing of machine production data; data collection from production histories and production loss causation; remote plant controls through the assistance of in-house technical staff.
Innovation in Automation
In the automation industry Pulsar Engineering has designed and installed conveyor systems for pallet handling, semi-automatic assembly lines, alpine accumulation conveyors for production lines and connections among the processing machines.
Pulsar Engineering’s systems have been applied to the automotive, mechanical, electromechanical, electronic and textile industries.
